Why Imperial Capital?

As a financial intermediary, you are undoubtedly asked by your clients what differentiates private equity firms and how does one choose between private equity firms when selling a business. For Imperial Capital, we believe the answer is simple:

Entrepreneurial History and Culture
Imperial Capital was founded by entrepreneurs who started the firm with a compelling vision and a hunger for success. We believe our corporate culture is better aligned with Business Owners who have gone through the entrepreneurial ups and downs of building a business and have succeeded in creating long-term equity appreciation.

Large Individual Investor Base
We pride ourselves on our unique investor base and strongly believe that it assists in the creation of value in our portfolio companies. Since we have a large investor base of individual investors who consist of entrepreneurs, business owners, chairmen, and CEOs, our investors bring more than money to the table. Our Investors bring experience, networks, and acquisition opportunities.

Targeted Industry Strategy
Our targeted industry strategy allows us to effectively operate as a strategic acquirer. Through our Knowledge-Based Investing approach, we believe we can better assess acquisition opportunities and the growth potential of those opportunities under our ownership.

CEO Partner Program
Selecting attractive industry niches in and of itself does not guarantee successful returns. Imperial Capital has determined that partnering with an industry expert is equally as important. The CEO Partner Program ensures that there is a successful CEO Partner for each targeted industry niche. Our program ensures that we are making well informed investments and that we have a vision and a strategy to add value to our portfolio companies.

Structured and Integrated Value Creation Process
We believe that each of our portfolio companies must approach value creation in a structured and integrated manner. Hence, we institute closed-loop strategic management system in each of our portfolio companies. This ensures the strategic goals are driving the financial goals, the management compensation system and the financial reporting system, all in a closed feedback loop to ensure success builds on success.

The Liquidity Event
Many private equity firms view their portfolio companies as their "inventory” of businesses that are bought and sold in the normal course. For these firms, they exit the investment to repatriate their investors’ monies plus a profit.

We believe that the liquidity event is one of the most important changes we will make to the company. We consider more options with respect to the liquidity event to ensure our Investors, Management Teams and Business Owners are receiving a full value and that the company is well positioned for the future (see Pacific Coast Publishing case study). Imperial Capital invests considerable time and effort in analyzing the best liquidity events for its portfolio companies with a view to long-term capital appreciation. Imperial Capital’s liquidity events have mainly been initial public offerings on major stock exchanges and share exchange mergers with public companies. These liquidity "opportunities” enabled Imperial Capital’s investors to hold their investments for the long-term based on their views of the merits of the portfolio company once publicly listed.
